Current account gap widens further this year

16 November 2007, MADRID - The shortfall in Spain's balance of merchandise trade, services, and transfers with the rest of the world was up 19.0 percent in the first eight months of the year at €66.817 billion.

MADRID - The shortfall in Spain's balance of merchandise trade, services, and transfers with the rest of the world was up 19.0 percent in the first eight months of the year at €
66.817 billion.

Spain has the second biggest current account deficit in the industrialized world after the United States. In August alone the shortfall widened to €
6.734 billion from €6.438 billion the same month a year earlier.
