NICE — Renowned Spanish painter and sculptor Antoni Clave, a former friend of Pablo Picasso, has died aged 92.
Clave, who will be buried on Tuesday, died in his home in Saint-Tropez on the south coast of France.
Born on April 5, 1913, in Barcelona, the artist fled to France in 1939 after the Spanish civil war where he met Pablo Picasso and began to work as an illustrator for French writer Merimee, Russian peer Pushkin and writer and philosopher Voltaire.
His work, which has been exhibited across the world, was influenced by cubism and surrealism and included engravings, sculpture, illustrations and painting.
He will be buried in Montparnasse cemetery in Paris on Tuesday.
