Crusading Spanish judge appeals to human rights court
Embattled Spanish Judge Baltasar Garzon has appealed to the European Court of Human Rights over the case brought against him concerning his probe into Franco-era crimes, his legal team said Friday.
"Judge Garzon today filed an appeal before the European Court of Human Rights challenging the legality of the proceedings against him for having opened an investigation into crimes committed under" late dictator Francisco Franco, it said in a statement.
It said the appeal was made "at the request of the families and representatives of victims of the regime."
