BARCELONA — The Guardia Civil have arrested two people and seized more than 370 kilogramme's of anabolic steroids which were being sold as 'natural health products' on the Internet.

Two Spaniards, aged 36 and 32, were arrested at the resort town of Sitges near Barcelona.

The steroids were to have been sold in more than 2,000 packages throughout Europe.

The police operation, which started at the end of last year, centred on steroids and other products being sold as supposed health products.

They were imported from the United States and came to Europe through Holland.

They were advertised as 'natural' health cures which promised to improve muscle size and reduce fat.

They were marketed mainly at body-builders.

In fact, they were made up of banned substances like testosterone and certain vitamins which, when combined, can be harmful to health.

The packages were mainly marked in English without any warning of possible side-effects. They had not passed tests by health authorities in Spain nor the US.
