MADRID — The 350 deputies in Spain's Congress or upper house of parliament will each have computers in the chamber to link them up to the outside world.

The computers will be connected to the Internet so they can plug into events outside the Spanish parliament.

Some deputies appeared enthusiastic about the changes, but others were doubtful, fearing the laptops could be a distraction.

If debates prove boring, deputies could be tempted to search the Net for more interesting things to look at.

The new computers are part of a EUR 15 million project to update the Spanish parliament.
