Continued growth recorded for Spanish economy

22 February 2006, MADRID – The Spanish economy grew by 3.4 percent in 2005, according to figures released by the National Statistics Institute (INE) on Wednesday.

MADRID – The Spanish economy grew by 3.4 percent in 2005, according to figures released by the National Statistics Institute (INE) on Wednesday.

The result is three-tenths faster than the previous year. Employment also grew by 3.1 percent, meaning 548,000 jobs were created.

According to the INE, growth has been driven by the rise in internal demand which Spain has witnessed – a remarkable 5.3 percent during 2005, compared to 4.9 percent in 2004.
