MADRID -  Consumer groups on Monday slammed plans by Telefónica Movistar, Spain's largest cell phone operator, to triple the price of multimedia messages and double the cost of mobile internet access.

User group FUCI called the increases "extreme" and "unjustified."

From next month, multimedia messages sent from a Movistar phone will cost EUR 1.00 each, while internet access will be charged at EUR 1 per day.
