MADRID – The conservative Popular Party announced on Monday that it will officially back a protest planned in Madrid against gay marriage.

General secretary Angel Acebes told a press conference the party would send representation to the march being organised on Saturday by the Spanish Forum for the Family.

He insisted, though, that the demonstration and the PP’s position was "not against homosexuals" but against the government’s law to legalise gay marriage and adoption, which opponents consider a threat to the notion of the family.
