Madrid - Venezuelan President Hugo Chávez announced Wednesday that he plans to "take a hard look at" relations with Spain and will also watch more closely the activities of Spanish businesses in his country.

"They're going to be called to account and I'm going to watch them to find out what they're doing here," Chávez warned.

The warning came four days after the left-wing leader was told to "shut up" by King Juan Carlos of Spain during a tense Iberoamerican Summit in Chile when he kept interrupting Spanish Prime Minister José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero. The government claims the incident will not affect relations with Venezuela.
