SEVILLE — Nine minors have been arrested for taking 'humiliating' pictures of a girl with Downs Syndrome then circulating them on the Internet.
Together with the pictures, they added a running commentary with lewd sexual references.
The group, which is includes one girl, have been ordered by a judge to work between 100 and 200 hours in a centre for children who have Downs Syndrome.
They were convicted of the crime of 'degrading and humiliating treatment'.
The affair came to light after the mother of one the of the children involved found images of the girl on the computer of her child.
She reported the matter the school where the girl with the condition is a pupil. The school called in the police.
The fact the children distributed the pictures and soundtrack on the Internet was an aggravating factor in the case.
It follows another case in Barcelona last year, in which a group of teenagers obsessed with the film Clockwork Orange, set fire to a homeless woman and killed her for kicks.
They recorded the entire episode on their mobile telephones.
It later emerged they had been carrying out similar attacks on other homeless people in the city in the weeks leading up the murder.
