ARANJUEZ - An explosion in a chemical factory in the town of Aranjuez, south of Madrid, killed one worker and severely injured three others on Thursday.

The blast at the Ercros plant was blamed on stray spark from soldering work at the factory that ignited a tank of highly-flammable methanol.

The dead worker was hit full-on by the explosion, while two of the three injured suffered burns to over 60 percent of their bodies.

Authorities said local residents were not at risk.
