BRATISLAVA — Spain's national football team are through to the World Cup Finals.

The team battled to a 1-1 draw with Slovakia, giving the Spaniards a cumulative 6-2 triumph in the two-match playoff for a spot in next year's finals in Germany.

The Spanish squad had routed the Slovaks 5-1 in the first match, played last Saturday in Madrid.

After a listless first half, Slovakia came out fighting in the opening minutes of the second period, with Filip Holosko scoring for the home side in the 50th minute.

But David Villa answered for the visitors at the 71-minute mark.

The victory in the playoff assured Spain of its eighth consecutive trip to the World Cup finals.
