MADRID- Sales of new cars in Spain fell 1.7 percent in October compared to the same month the year before, Spanish car manufacturers said Tuesday.

There were 118,780 vehicles sold last month, the national automobile manufacturers' association reported.

But sales from January to October were up some 10.2 percent from the same period last year, to reach 1.262 million.

The association said that despite the dip last month, it remained "positive" about future trends given the fewer number of working days this year compared to 2003.

Orders fell 2.8 percent in October but rose 11.5 percent from January to October.
