A bull caused panic at a bullring in northern Spain Wednesday when it charged into a crowd of terrified spectators, injuring at least 18 people, Spanish media said.

Spanish television showed dramatic images of people, including children, frantically trying to avoid the animal after it leapt over a partition and clambered up the packed spectator stands.

A 10-year-old boy was seriously injured and another spectator was gored in the back, while 16 others were slightly hurt in the incident in Tafalla, in the northern region of Navarra, said Mundotoros, a Spanish website that covers bullfighting.

Several spectators finally managed to get control of the bull.

The incident did not take place during a traditional bullfight but during a contest of "recortadores", in which participants try to avoid the bull while staying as close to it as possible.
