BARCELONA - A British man was arrested Wednesday in connection with the murder of his teenage girlfriend in a popular tourist resort near Barcelona, Spanish police said.
The 19-year-old Byelorussian woman was found murdered in the early hours of the morning.
She is thought to have been killed after a row with her boyfriend, police said.
The night manager of the Playa Golf hotel where they were staying in Sitges, near Barcelona, called police after hearing shouts from the couple's room at 5.30am.
Shortly after he called police, the manager said he saw the boyfriend leave the room covered in blood and "looking very crazy".
The manager ran after the boyfriend and stopped him leaving until the police arrived.
When police went to the room where the couple had been staying they found the girlfriend dead.
Police have not disclosed how the woman was killed.
But they said they also found the two-year-old daughter of the murdered woman in the room.
The child was being cared for by a nurse.
The arrested man, named by police only as Chabra S., is 29-year-old and of Indian descent.
He had been arrested nearly three weeks earlier for attacking his girlfriend.
Police said on this occasion they were called to another local hotel after a loud argument and found the girlfriend tied up.
The girlfriend, who has not been named, initially claimed she had been kidnapped for a number of days, then withdrew the allegation. Her boyfriend was later released.
The British man has been living in Spain for the past four years. In recent months, he has been living in hotels with his late girlfriend and their daughter.
