British woman held in Spain on suspicion of killing two children: police
Spanish police said Tuesday they had detained a British woman they suspect of having murdered her two young children while on holiday in the coastal resort of Lloret de Mar.
"The mother, a British national, was arrested on suspicion of being responsible for the murder of the two children," a local police spokesman told AFP.
Police found the lifeless bodies of the children inside a bedroom in the hotel, they said in a statement.
They did not give their age, saying only that they were "very young" but Spanish media reported that they were a boy and a girl under the age of six.
There were no traces of violence on the children's bodies and police are still investigating the cause of their death, public radio station RNE reported.
Spanish news channel CNN+ said the woman herself asked staff at the hotel reception to call an ambulance.
A reporter for the station said police took the woman inside the hotel in handcuffs, possibly to question her in the room where the children were found.
Neither her identity nor that of the children has been released.
Lloret de Mar, a city of around 40,000 people located some 70 kilometres (45 miles) northeast of Barcelona, is one of the most popular resorts on Spain's Costa Brava which is popular with British tourists.
