MALAGA-A British pensioner has been stabbed at a campsite near Malaga.

The 65-year-old, who has not been named, was attacked at the Torrox campsite on Sunday.

He was taken to hospital in nearby Axarquia, where he was said to be in a stable condition.

The man suffered multiple injuries after being stabbed in his throat, thorax and arms with a knife.

He suffered heavy loss of blood and had to have a transfusion in hospital.
 
His 53-year-old girlfriend, who has not been named, was arrested in connection with the attack.

She is being held in a local police station and will appear in court on Wednesday.

The campsite manager called emergency services at about 9.50pm on Sunday.

Police found the man who had a number of stab wounds on the upper half of his body.

The couple lived in the bungalow on a semi-permanent basis on a camping area popular with foreigners.
