Spanish police Friday arrested a British man suspected of murdering his girfriend whose body was found in a hotel in a Mediterranean resort, police sources said.

MADRID - Spanish police Friday arrested a British man suspected of murdering his girfriend whose body was found in a hotel in a Mediterranean resort, police sources said.

The body of the 20-year-old woman, also British, was found with stab wound in her neck Friday afternoon in a hotel in the coastal town of Cabo Roig, about 50 kilometres (30 miles) south of the city of Alicante.

Her 24-year-old boyfriend was arrested several hours later near the town of Oliva, some 40 kilometres (24 miles) north of Alicante.

The motive behind the killing was not clear.
