MALAGA — A retired British businessman is being treated in hospital in Spain after he was shot during an armed raid at his home near Alhaurin el Grand, Malaga.

Brian Cowan, 61, and his wife Linda, 56, who are from Suffolk, were at their house on Wednesday morning when they were confronted by a gang of four men.

Mr Cowan was shot a number of times. They also hit his wife with a gun, the BBC reportedshoters

It is believed Mr Cowan moved to Spain six years ago after selling his home and freight business in Nacton.

He is the latest victim of a rising tide of violent crime directed at expats who have moved to Spain and are seen as wealthy by local crime gangs.

In May, Wilson Mills, 67, who moved from Par to La Manga in southern Spain two years ago, was killed with a shotgun when a gang raided his home.

He was shot dead in front of his wife and the gang snatched cash from their home.

Police arrested five teenagers for the shooting of Mr Mills who was killed as he sunbathed with his wife.
