MALAGA — A five-year-old boy was drowned in the pool of the a popular tourist hotel in Torremolinos.
The boy, who was said to be of Arab origin, was pulled from the pool by his father, but died later.
He fell in the deep end of the pool at the Hotel Principe Sol.
When he was pulled out, emergency services tried to resuscitate him on the side of the pool, but he was pronounced brain dead later in hospital.
The boy and his family were not clients of the hotel, a spokesman for the Sol Melia hotel chain said.
In a separate incident,an IRA suspect wanted by German authorities in connection with a bomb attack on a British barracks in 1989, was arrested last week by Spanish police at the same hotel.
Leonard Hardy, 44, had been under surveillance by Spanish police for days after a tip-off from their British counterparts.
Hardy, from Antrim, Northern Ireland, is wanted by German authorities for the bombing of British barracks in Osnabruck in August 1989.
He is also wanted for the attempted murder of a worker in Germany who is said to have stumbled upon the IRA cell before the attacks at the Osnabruck barracks.
