BARCELONA — The body of an eight-year-old boy was found on Wednesday in a canal after a two-day search by his frantic parents and relatives.
The boy, named as Mamadu D, went missing when he fell in the canal while playing with a friend on Monday.
His body was discovered by searching fire fighters in the Seros canal, near the village of Albatarrec, near Llerida in Catalonia, northeast Spain.
It was three kilometres from where he had been playing.
Mamadu fell in the water while playing with one friend.
The friend's mother jumped in the canal in an effort to save the boy, but to no avail.
The Guinean-born boy, whose parents have emigrated to Spain, was carried away by the current of the canal.
