Biggest rise in growth for almost five years

14 November 2006, MADRID — Spain's economy grew 3.8 percent year on year, according to the latest figures released on Tuesday.

MADRID — Spain's economy grew 3.8 percent year on year, according to the latest figures released on Tuesday.

In the third quarter, the GDP went up by 0.9 pc,  said analysts at the National Statistics Institute (INE).

In a statement, the INE said GDP increased 3.8 pct in the third quarter from a year earlier, compared with a 3.6 pct year-on-year increase in the second.

This is the biggest rise since the final quarter of 2001.
