MADRID-The number of people out of work in Spain fell by 33,127 in March – the biggest fall for this month for eight years.

The Spanish National Institute of Statistics said there were now 1,684,164 people out of work – a fall of 1.93 with respect to the month before, February.

In the last 12 months, the underlying rate of unemployment has fallen by 59,542 or by 3.41 percent.

Unemployment fell in all sectors in March but showed the largest decrease in agriculture, where there was a 5.7 percent drop in those out of work.

The number of men out of work stood at 681,179 – a drop of 14,732 or 2.1 percent.
However, the jobless figure for women stood at 1,002,985, showing a fall of 18,485 or 1.8 percent down.

In comparison with the same period a year ago, the number of men out of work has dropped by 3.2 percent or by 23,118 and amongst women by 3.5 percent or by 36,424.

In regional terms, Andalucia showed the biggest fall in the number out of work, with 11,069 searching for employment.

This was followed by Catalonia (5,589 less out of work) then the Basque Country, where there were 3,829 jobless than in February.

Unemployment went up in the Canary Islands, by 795, and by 372 in Madrid.
