MADRID — The number of people out of work in June fell by 44,774 compared with the month before, according to figures released on Tuesday.

The Public Employment Services Office said this represented a 2.2 percent fall compared with figures from May.

Overall, the number of unemployed in July stood at 1,959,754 million.

In the same month of 2005, the number of jobless exceeded 2 million.

Statisticians said it was the second biggest fall in the month of June since 2001.

But June is traditionally a good month for reducing unemployement due to a number of people taking up seasonal work.

By sectors, only agriculture saw a rise from 1.12 to 1.8 percent.
