BENIDORM — It may seem a long way from Vera Duckworth's usual stamping ground but a little bit of Coronation Street is coming to Benidorm.

The resort famous for cheap holidays, chips and lobster-red Britons, is to name a landmark after the British soap opera Coronation Street, the Guardian newspaper reported.

Plaza Coronation Street will be at the corner of Girona and del Derramador streets in the coastal town.

For the town hall it is an unashamed attempt to cash-in on the long-running programme.

"Most of the show's viewers visit Benidorm," a spokesman said.

"The idea is to establish a link around which publicity and promotion can be based."
