NEW YORK — Spanish actor Javier Bardem has been tipped to play Cuban leader Fidel Castro in a new film about the life of Che Guevara.
American director Steven Soderburgh said he could not discount casting Bardem as the ageing Cuban premier for his film about the life of Argentinean revolutionary.
When asked if he had chosen Bardem for the role, Soderburgh said: "Bardem is not part of the team at the moment, but I like him a lot as an actor."
Puerto Rican actor Benicio del Toro is to play 'Che' while Benjamín Bratt is to be 'Ente', who was Che's right-hand man.
'Guerrilla', described as a war film by Soderburgh, is an epic biography centred around the last years of the life of Che.
He was shot dead by Bolivian troops as he tried to start a revolution in the South American country.
The film is based on newly-released declassified CIA documents.
