MADRID - Eight directors of the Barcelona soccer club resigned Thursday in protest at the decision of the club president, Joan Laporta, to continue in his role.

The beleaguered president has overseen two seasons without titles for the Catalan team, and recently lost a vote of no confidence when 60 percent of club members voted against him.

Thursday's news means that the board is without nearly half of its members, including three of its vice presidents.
