TARRAGONA — Four employees who were held hostage in a siege in a bank were freed.
After an hour-and-a-half of negotiating with police, the robber released the four bank workers.
He was said to still be inside the bank.
The siege, at the branch of the Caixa Tarragona, started after the man tried to rob the bank.
Police surrounded the building and cut off surrounding roads.
Officers at the scene said the man was armed and masked.
He went in to the bank just after 2pm and threatened the employees, demanding they give him money.
But the raid ended unsuccessfully after the security system was quickly put into operation.
The man is a well-known robber in the city.
Police think the pistol he used was a fake.
