Ash costs Spanish tourism 252 million euros: trade body

The closure of European airspace due to the cloud of volcanic ash cloud has so far cost Spain's tourism sector 252 million euros in lost earnings, Spain's main tourism trade body said Wednesday.

The figure excludes losses incurred by airlines and it covers the period between Thursday when much of European airspace was closed following the eruption a day earlier of the Eyjafjoell volcano in Iceland, and Tuesday.

Exceltur's members include Spain's main airlines, hoteliers, travel agents and car hire companies.
