A bulldozer operator became the second men to die as he was helping to put out the blaze.

Madrid – A bulldozer operator helping to put out a wildfire in the Spanish province of Avila was killed on Wednesday after losing control of his machine, a regional government official said.

He became the second fatality resulting from the blaze, after a 63-year-old professor lost his life when flames engulfed his home near Arenas de San Pedro, 120 kilometres (75 miles) west of Madrid.

A woman is still missing as firefighters tackle the wildfire, which so far has swept over 300 hectares (750 acres) of land.

Last week six firefighters were killed whilst battling fires in Spain that destroyed a total area of nearly 20,000 hectares.
