Amadeus says no decision on sale of Opodo
Spanish travel group Amadeus Wednesday said it has made no decision on any sale of its affiliate, online travel agent Opodo, although it has hired an unnamed investment bank to advise it.
The Wall Street Journal, quoting sources close to the issue, said Wednesday that British-based Opodo has attracted the interest of a number of buyers including Internet search giant Google, online travel company Expedia and private equity firms Permira and Axa Private Equity.
"In the face of rumours in the Spanish press and overseas on the possible sale of online travel agent Opodo, a company in the Amadeus group, the board has taken no decision on this subject," Amadeus said in a statement to Spain's stock market regulator.
"The management of the group is investigating and evaluating strategic alternatives to present to the board and for that it has hired an investment bank" to advise it on Opodo.
Shares in Madrid-based Amadeus were up 2.61 percent at 13.545 euros in late morning on the Madrid stock market.
