MADRID- Spanish police have arrested 90 people in a major operation against child pornography.
The arrests were made in 26 different provinces across the country.
Among those arrested were 21 children, college teachers, students, engineers, technology workers, military personnel, civil servants and cleaning workers.
The operation – codenamed Channel – was first launched in June by officers from a police unit which specialises in fighting organised child pornography.
Raids were carried out in 87 houses, with police seizing scores of computers and CDs and DVDs.
Police found hard core pictures and videos featuring children involved in every type of pornography.
On some sophisticated computers they discovered up to 10,000 pictures of children involved in sex acts.
Spanish police said child pornography was a problem which affected all parts of society, but those involved were predominantly men.
They said those arrested were using well-known techniques to distribute the images of child pornography.
The children involved were getting younger and younger, they added.
Arrests were made in Albacete, Álava, Alicante, Aragón, Asturias, Badajoz, the Balearic Islands, Barcelona, Cádiz, Castellón, Córdoba, the Basque Country, Huelva, La Rioja, the Canary Islands, León, Málaga, Murcia, Navarre, Pontevedra, Santa Cruz de Tenerife, Seville, Soria, Valencia and Madrid.
