CIUDAD REAL – More than 2,000 people attended the funeral on Sunday of the Spanish tourists killed when a cliff collapsed onto a beach in Portugal.

Carlos Barrajón and Lourdes Espinosa were found buried beneath rocks at Almagreira on Thursday evening. Their bodies were later identified and they were flown to Spain to their home in Daimiel in Ciudad Real.

On Sunday, the church San Pedro in Daimiel was packed for the couple's funeral, with hundreds listening to the service outside.

Priest Eulalio Asensio praised the pair's "love, will power and generosity".

The funeral, held at 6pm, finished with the couple being buried in a grave together, at the request of both families.

Barrajon worked for the forestry services in Las Tablas in Daimiel while Espinosa had worked in a day centre for the elderly.
