03/02/2009Bookstore cum cafe-bar restaurant in Madrid

Bookstore cum cafe-bar restaurant in Madrid J&J Books and Coffee allows avid book readers to browse at their own convenience as well as grab a cup of coffee.

J&J Books and Coffee is a bookstore/coffee shop that stems from a dream.

Open in December 2003 by American Jamie Poole and her Spanish husband Javi Sanz, the idea of setting up a bookstore came about as Jamie missed the idea of curling up in a chair with a mocha and several books to read.

The couple then went to the States where they bought thousands of second-hand books in preparation for their bookstore.

Some visitors may also find it interesting to know that the two storey bookshop was also once home to a Chinese restaurant, then an Arabic one, and finally a topless bar before being converted to its present look today.

In addition to coffee and books, visitors can also participate in regular activities: intercambio night (English-Spanish language exchange), Margarita Mondays, pub quizzes, Trivia Night or Teacher Night organised by the shop.
