23/07/2008Emergency numbers in Spain

Emergency numbers in Spain A must-have list of numbers that will help you put out fire when you are in the country.

YOU are basking in the eternal sunshine on the gorgeous beach of this beautiful country. You are relaxed and contended with your Dolce and Gabbana sunshades and your favourite summer book until you reached into your beach bag and discovered your purse is gone.

Emergencies do happen and it’s always handy to have a list of numbers at hand.

Expatica advises you to keep a printout of emergency telephone numbers – on your fridge, in your wallet, in the folder of your passport, anywhere as long as it is easily accessible.

Keep in mind that some Spanish emergency services have English-speaking staff, but many don’t. If you do not speak Spanish, it is best to find a Spanish-speaker whom you can trust.

If not, you may want to memorise the following Spanish phrases:

Quiero hacer una denuncia./Quiero denunciar un crimen. - I’d like to report a crime.
Necesito una ambulancia./Necesito que me envíen una ambulancia. - I need you to send me an ambulance.
Mi casa está ardiendo - My house is burning down.
Vivo en… - I live at…
Socorro - Help! (emergency)
