Valencian president faces censure over land grab 04/10/2006 00:00

VALENCIA — The president of the Valencian regional government faced a motion of censure over corruption claims.
Francisco Camps, of the conservative Popular Party, is accused of running an administration which is mired in "galloping corruption".
The motion was put forward by opposition parties.
Joan Ignasi Pla, spokesman for the socialists and Valencian socialist party alliance, (PSPV-PSOE), said the authority should "establish basic principles against corruption".
They want financial rules to be changed so that no financial deal can be agreed by any member of the authority which means they stand to gain personally, above the national average.
PSPV spokesman Andrés Perelló said Valencia should combat "galloping corruption".
He claimed Camps had abandoned public services and had "hid and said nothing".
He headed an administration which did not "assume its responsibilities".
Perello said under Camps Valencia had been condemned by the European Parliament a for its notorious land-grab law, which has affected thousands of expats.
But PP spokesman Serafín Castellano said it was ridiculous to censure the head of the authority when Valencia "was enjoying one of the best moments thanks to the PP".
