MADRID — The Civil Guard arrested on Wednesday 52 people for allegedly stealing precious artefacts from archeological digs across the country.
Sources claimed they have recovered up to 300,000 stolen artefacts.
Civil Guard officers carried out 60 raids in Zamora, Barcelona and Madrid.
The suspects included alleged thieves, intermediaries and collectors of the archeological treasures.
At least 30 archeological sites in Huelva, Cadiz, Granada, Jaén and Córdoba were damaged by thieves.
