MADRID, Spain (AP) _ Spanish police arrested a Romanian man suspected of throwing acid in his wife's face, authorities said Tuesday.

The 43-year-old man was arrested Monday night, several hours after the alleged attack in broad daylight in Madrid, the National Police said. The woman was being treated Tuesday for second-degree burns on her face, hands and legs.

The couple's 19-year-old son was present and scuffled with his father to keep him from attacking his mother and was slightly injured himself.

In a separate incident, police said a Romanian man doused himself with gasoline and set himself ablaze on Tuesday in the eastern city of Castellon. His daughter said he was desperate over financial problems since the family came here to work about three months ago, the national news agency Efe said.
