Four women escape as brothel siege goes on 06/11/2006 00:00

SEVILLE — Four women have escaped a brothel where an armed man had been holding them hostage.

With the aid of the police, they managed to escape through the bars of a window.

They got out at 12.45pm after several hours hiding in a room.

They had hidden after hearing the sound of gunfire in the early hours of the morning.

Three shots have been fired by an unidentified man.

He has refused efforts by a negotiator to end the siege.

The siege started in the early hours of the morning at the Majarabique industrial estate in Seville.

Police were called after a telephone call from the public.

A special operations police unit called GEO has taken up position outside the building.

Officers from GEO usually deal with sieges.
