Still no solution as Catalan drought worsens 08/04/2008 00:00

Politicians have yet to agree on a solution to transport water.

8 April 2008

SPAIN - The worst drought to hit the Catalan region turns the dried-up Francoli river into a path for a herd of sheep.

A recent decision by the Socialist government of José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero to oppose the construction of a pipeline to transport water from the Segre river to Barcelona has raised political tensions in the region.

Catalan water association Fundación Nueva Cultura del Agua said in a report this week that Barcelona should be supplied by water from the Segre river temporarily during this period of extreme drought.
