MADRID - Tonight in Madrid representatives of the two major US political parties will engage in a debate on a range of topics including the war in Iraq, economic policy, health care, and climate change.

In this first-ever debate sponsored by the non-partisan American Club of Madrid, the presidents of both Democrats Abroad and Republicans Abroad for Spain, each with one partner, will face off to defend the political positions of their respective parties.

Event organiser and former president for Democrats Abroad Madrid Kristi Green explains that the purpose of the event is "for American citizens to participate in the democratic process, even while living abroad." Four organisations, including the US Embassy, will be present to provide voter registration information.

The limited-space debate will take place at the Hotel Husa Princesa (C/ Princesa 40) between 7 and 10pm. The EUR 5 entrance fee will include a Spanish wine.
