McDonalds Belgium makes profit 12/03/2008 00:00

McDonalds Belgium made profits in 2007, for the second year in a row.

McDonalds Belgium made profits in 2007, for the second year in a row. The profit and the market share of the fast-food chain increased in our country last year. Exact profit figures cannot be disclosed because McDonalds is quoted on the stock exchange.

The turnover in the 57 McDonalds restaurants in Belgium increased by five percent in 2007. Last year the fast-food chain had close to 30 million clients, 5 million more than the year before. Compared to other European countries, the increase was minimal in Belgium.

Until 2004 McDonalds was booking losses in Belgium. The chain closed 2005 with a slightly positive and in 2006 there was a real profit for the first time. This trend continued through 2007.

According to CEO Stephan De Brouwer McDonalds' image is improving. For example, McDonalds came in third as best employer this year. "The myth of the 'McJob' (meaning a substandard job) loses steam," says Mr De Brouwer. The healthy options on the menu also help improve the fast-food chain's image.

McDonalds is opening 5 new restaurants in Belgium this year.
