HAMBURG - Germany have chosen a hardcourt surface in an effort to beat Rafael Nadal and his Spanish team-mates in an April Davis Cup quarter-final tie.

Germany captain Patrick Kuehnen said on Wednesday that the rebound ace hardcourt was chosen because the German team did well in a 3-2 first-round win over Croatia last year.

The German team is likely to feature the likes of Philipp Kohlschreiber and Tommy Haas. Spain, who are normally at their best on the slow clay, are expected to be spearheaded by world number two Nadal in the 11-13 April event in Bremen.
