FRANKFURT - Over 25,000 people from all over the world have applied to be one of the 15,000 volunteers needed at the 2006 World Cup in Germany.

"The enormous interest proves we were correct with this idea," said Theo Zwanziger. "The programme gives life to our motto 'the world as a guest with friends'."

Applications have come from all five continents and those who have not yet applied can still do so via FIFA's website www.fifa.com between June and September of this year and in January and February 2006.

Zwanziger also revealed that the 2,000 volunteers needed for the 2005 Confederations Cup, will be selected from the over 12,000 people who have already applied.
