BERLIN - German politicians are to meet with top businessmen and members of the World Cup organising committee to discuss a German image campaign based around the 2006 football World Cup.

The meeting is set to take place on 15 December.

A sum of EUR 10.65 million for 2005 has been set aside by the government for the campaign which is to generate interest and investment in Germany.

Germany's parliamentary opposition of Free Democrats and Christian Democrats has harshly criticised the planned campaign by the Social Democrats/Greens coalition under chancellor Gerhard Schroeder, naming it propaganda for the coalition in the election year 2006.
