HAMBURG - Europe's biggest carmaker, Volkswagen, is building a new 'Popemobile' for Catholic leader Benedict XVI.

The pope will use the vehicle when he visits his native Germany for the World Catholic Youth Congress in the city of Cologne on 16-21 August, Germany's Auto Motor und Sport magazine reported.

The white, pickup-like car is based on the Touareg offroader and features two doors with a bulletproof glass section at the back. VW is also providing around 100 courtesy vehicles for the event.
