VW names former GM exec as head of US ops: report
Europe's biggest carmaker, Volkswagen, is set to name a former General Motors executive as head of its US activities, the Wall Street Journal reported on Monday, citing people familiar with the matter.
Jonathan Browning, 51, joined Volkswagen in June after nine years with GM in Europe, where he was head of European sales, service and marketing.
"As chief of Volkswagen's US unit, he will be in charge of an ambitious strategy... to nearly triple US sales to more than one million vehicles annually by 2018," the Wall Street Journal said.
VW looks to increase its US presence as it pursues the goal of overtaking Toyota of Japan as the world's largest automaker by 2018.
A VW spokesman declined to comment when contacted by the newspaper.
