20 September 2006, GRAFENWOEHR, GERMANY - Two US soldiers were killed when an AH-64D Apache Longbow helicopter attack helicopter crashed Wednesday in Germany. The cause of the crash at the Grafenwoehr US army training grounds in the south of the country was not known. The Apache, which has a two-person crew, is in wide use by the US Army in both Iraq and Afghanistan.A military spokesman said one serviceman died on impact and the other soon after at a German civilian hospital.

The cause of the crash at the Grafenwoehr US army training grounds in the south of the country was not known. The Apache, which has a two-person crew, is in wide use by the US Army in both Iraq and Afghanistan.

A military spokesman said one serviceman died on impact and the other soon after at a German civilian hospital.

Both men belonged to the 1st Armored Division's 12th Combat Aviation Brigade, the Army's Public Affairs Office said in a statement quoted by the news agency AP. Their identites have been withheld until their families could be informed.

A US military investigation has begun.
