19 November 2004 , HEIDELBERG - A dozen US military units in Germany will be disbanded in the next year, commanders announced on Friday. The units, with about 1,000 soldiers, are based in Bavaria, Baden-Wuerttemberg and Hesse and are being "put on inactive status" as part of troop repositioning efforts, commanders in Heidelberg said. HEIDELBERG - A dozen US military units in Germany will be disbanded in the next year, commanders announced on Friday.

The units, with about 1,000 soldiers, are based in Bavaria, Baden-Wuerttemberg and Hesse and are being "put on inactive status" as part of troop repositioning efforts, commanders in Heidelberg said.

The cutbacks could affect "a small number" of American and German civilian employees, it was said.

Other units will be strengthened, keeping the American military presence at its current 62,000 total.
