US footballer of the year returns to German club

25 November 2004 , MADRID - Landon Donovan, who earlier this month became the first player to win the US Footballer of the Year award three times, is to return to Bayer Leverkusen, the German club announced. Bayer official Wolfgang Holzhaeuser said that 22-year-old Donovan would be returning to Germany on 3 January and to participate in the training camp in Spain. Landon signed a lengthy contract with Leverkusen as a 16-year-old in 1999, but has been on loan to San Jose Earthquakes for the last three years
